UNDERSTANING THE DOINGS OF THE SPIRIT
ACCESSING THE INACCESSIBLE IN THE SPIRIT
REFERENCES: I KINGS 18:7-14, I Kgs 21: 17-20, II Kgs 9:1-10, II Kgs 9: 24-33
It is possible to accessible what has been deemed inaccessible to you, in the realm of the spirit.
Moses was not alive in the days of Abraham; yet, he accessed the mystery of Abraham’s time by the Spirit.
I Kgs 18:7-14
And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah? And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me? As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not. And now thou sayest, God, tell they lord, Behold, Elijah is here. And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
Obadiah was hesitant to report to Ahab that he had found Elijah, because he knew the level of effort that Ahab had put into finding the prophet. He knew that the king had had consulted nations and kingdoms, employing their powers in the search for Elijah.
The worshippers of Baal had discovered what Gideon had done to their idol at night, by employing mystical powers.
In the same way, Ahab consulted evil powers to access the whereabouts of Elijah. However, the prophet proved impossible to find.
While the search for his location was going on, Elijah had been by the brook Cherith. Yet, the king and all his cohorts could not find him, because the Lord had covered him.
And now, here he was.
The man who had proved impossible to find, suddenly appears and says, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
Obadiah was indeed wise to have second thoughts. He understood that the mystery behind Elijah’s inaccessibility was the Spirit. It would not have mattered if Elijah had been standing before the king. He would only have been discovered when the Spirit permitted it.
When you walk under the cover of the Spirit, you also can declare that, ‘I am here’. Yet, when wicked men seek you for harm, they will find that their heat-seeking missiles missed the target over and over again; because, although you are here, you are inaccessible to them.
No wonder Christ had the Jews confused when He declared that, ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. (Jn 7:34)
Brethren, Elijah was inaccessible to Ahab, as well as the nations and kingdoms he had consulted. Elijah was a man like you. Therefore, this can also be your testimony. I declare that your life, glory and destiny are inaccessible to every wicked personality, in the name of Jesus.
I Kgs 21: 17-20
And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, an also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy?
These two men had been seeking each other. However, while Elijah had been inaccessible to Ahab, it had been easy for the prophet to find the king.
This explained the king’s question: Hast thou found me, O mine enemy?
He was simply wondering aloud: how is it that I sought you, but failed to find you; and how is it that you were able to find me?
And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.
Brethren, this is the true order in the Kingdom of God.
It is an anomaly for the wicked to seek and find the righteous, with the righteous having to hide themselves from the wicked.
It is the divine right of the righteous to take the battle to the wicked. You are to let the wicked see that you know where they are, and that you have come to execute divine judgement against them.
The superiority of the Spirit of God is revealed. While Ahab sought the help of nations and kingdoms to find Elijah, without success, Elijah simply followed the direction of the Spirit of God, and, viola! Ahab was found.
The prophet did not just know his whereabouts, he also got information about the atrocities he had just committed.
Also consider this. Obadiah knew that Elijah’s remained presence where he had found him, was dependent on the Spirit. However, once the Spirit gave away the location of Ahab to Elijah, He would have ensured that the king remained there until Elijah arrived.
II Kgs 9:1-10
And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead: And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber; Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
Witchcraft is a terrible spirit.
The records that the depth of Jezebel’s witchcraft was so great that it affected the lives of her children.
One of the negative impacts of witchcraft is its ability to suspend the blessings of men, by making their blessings unreachable to them…
Before he was caught up to heaven, God commanded Elijah to anoint three men- Elisha, Jehu and Hazael. However, while he anointed Elisha, he was unable to anoint the other two.
Elisha followed Elijah for about 10years. During all this time, up to the time of his passing, he did not get to anoint Jehu and Hazael. He eventually passed on without getting to anoint either of the two.
What is puzzling is that Elijah did see Jehu before he passed. However, although he saw him, he could not access him. Jehu was present when Elijah confronted Ahab at the vineyard of Naboth. Why then did he not see him?
Elijah, despite his level of anointing, could not access Jehu because the witchcraft of Jezebel covered him.
Brethren, this is why you need to pray. It is possible to be within reach of your helpers, and yet be made inaccessible to them.
Throughout the time Elisha served Elijah, Jehu was not anointed. Long after Elijah had passed, and after Elisha had begun his ministry as the prophet in Israel, he was still not anointed.
When you find yourself connected to someone who desires to keep you from going far, understand that you are dealing with witchcraft.
Jezebel used her witchcraft to cover up the life and Jehu, rendering him inaccessible to a man of the God, the calibre of Elijah. She succeeded in keeping him out of reach until he passed, and even long after Elisha began his ministry!
Even with his double portion of anointing, he was delayed in accessing Jehu!
And, while all these transpired, Jehu, the man divinely ordained by God to be king over Israel, was still standing as a captain to Jezebel and her sons…
His heavenly miracle was suspended by an earthly power.
Elisha sent the young prophet with very specific instructions.
And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
Go to Ramoth-gilead.
When you get there, look out. The man you seek is there. When you see him, make him arise, because there is a force that has kept him down for long. You must wield sufficient power to make him arise.
Carry him.
It does not matter that he is a captain. It is not about his physical build. It is a function of the Spirit. He needs the power of the Spirit to break the power that had made seat as a mere man for so long.
When the Spirit comes into the picture, He will lift up the stockiest of men.
When you have kept down by witchcraft power, you need a man with higher power of the Spirit to carry you to a higher realm.
You need someone to carry you in to the place of power. There, pour the oil on his head, and declare God’s judgement.
Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
His physical anointing was to establish what God had already done more than 17 years earlier.
So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead. And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain. And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
When the young man got there, and declared that he had a message, it was Jehu who asked to know who the message was directed at.
At the prophet’s answer, Jehu arose.
The words of the prophet penetrated the heart of Jehu, and caused him.
And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
Smite the power that covers your life.
Jezebel had covered the life of Jehu because she knew that he had been ordained to bring an end to her reign of wickedness.
For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel: And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah: And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
II Kgs 9: 24-33.
As Jehu began to fulfill his assignment against the house Ahab, he remembered the prophecy that went up against his former master by the mouth of Elijah. In doing so, he showed that he had been there when Elijah found Ahab.
Why then did the prophet not anoint then?
More than 10years on, he still remembered the prophecy. He must have sensed that there was a connection between himself and the prophet.
He could not forget the prophecy because the spirit of Elijah was also the spirit of Jehu.
Jezebel heard that Jehu had been anointed. She knew that her hold of witchcraft had been destroyed, and that he was coming to kill her. Therefore, she decided to place a curse on him.
What she did not know was that Jehu had become inaccessible and unreachable to every work of darkness.
